Virtual course of:Coursera |
This "Using Python to Access Web Data" course will show how the Internet can be treated as a data source. We will scratch, parse, and read web data, as well as address data access using web APIs. We will work with various data formats such as: HTML, XML and JSON in Python. This course will cover chapters 11 to 13 of our guide book:
At the end of the course “Using Python to access web data” , which is the third (3rd) course in the “Python for everyone” specialization. You will start to see an evolution represented in a moderate but increased difficulty, and you will perceive the difference compared to the previous courses in the specialization, since I had that you can spend more time debugging and practicing, but it will be satisfying to notice your evolution.
- python for everyone, which includes the good Dr.Chuck and the mentors, always go out of their way to support the students. One of the best mechanisms to reach this support is through the discussion forums, in which you can debate with other students about the different videos, readings and questionnaires to solve. Being a programmer is subject to many limitations and the main one is the need for mentorship and the specialized Coursera program team python for everyone, understand this very well.
STARTING. In this section you will install Python and a text editor. In previous classes in the "Python for Everyone" specialization, this was an optional assignment, but starting with this class it will be a requirement to continue learning. From this point on, we will stop using the browser-based Python skeleton environment because the browser-based Python environment (Skulpt) is not capable of running the more complex programs that we will develop in this class.
REGULAR EXPRESSIONS (CHAPTER 11). Regular expressions are a very specialized language that allow us to search for strings very briefly in order to extract strings of data. Regular expressions are a whole language in themselves. It is not essential to know the use of regular expressions, but in everyday life they can be quite useful and powerful.
NETWORKS AND PLUGS (CHAPTER 12). In this section, we'll learn about the different protocols used by web browsers to retrieve documents and the web applications they use to interact with Application Program Interfaces (APIs).
PROGRAMS THAT SURF THE WEB (CHAPTER 12). In this section, we learn how to use Python to retrieve data from websites and APIs over the Internet.
WEB AND XML SERVICES (CHAPTER 13). In this section, we will learn how eXtensible Markup Language (XML) data is retrieved and parsed.
JSON AND REST ARCHITECTURE (CHAPTER 13). In this module, we work with application programming interfaces (APIs) / web services (WS) using the JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data format.

ABOUT THE SPECIALIZED PROGRAM PYTHON FOR EVERYONE. This course is part of the specialized program "Python For Everyone" available on Coursera. This specialization is based on Dr Chuck's book, "Python for Everybody" and will help you understand the basics of programming including data structures, network application programming interfaces, and databases, working with the language of Python programming. In the Capstone Project (it is the degree project to obtain certification of successful completion of the specialized program), you will put into practice the knowledge and technologies learned throughout the Specialization to design and create your own applications for the recovery, processing and visualization of data.
