In the capstone (final work), students will build a series of applications to retrieve, process and visualize data using Python. Projects will include all elements seen during this "Python for Everyone" specialization. In the first part of this closing to the course, students will present visualizations to become familiar with the technologies in use and then they will carry out their personal project to visualize other data that they have or can find. Chapters 15 and 16 of the "Python for Everybody" book will serve as the closing backbone of this Python journey of learning. This course covers Python 3.
Ending this journey through the fundamentals of Python in this last course “Capstone: data retrieval, processing and visualization with Python” , students report feeling that it was a form of low pressure with which they could approach this new language, which is becoming more and more popular. Even for programming veterans with extensive experience in other languages who are beginning to lose ground, they consider the specialized program “Python for everyone” , is a proportionate way to start your mental migration to a new language. This course will be a great opportunity to acquire those new skills that the market demands. The final exercises of the personal project allow students to put into practice in their own situations and particular needs, how to assimilate this new knowledge in real life, and have a solid foundation to enter deeper studies of Python in the future.
WELCOME TO CAPSTONE. Congratulations to those who have reached this point. Before getting started, it is a good idea to watch the Introduction video and read the Capstone Overview. The Course Resources section contains additional material from throughout the course which you will be able to refer to in the coming weeks.
BUILDING A SEARCH ENGINE. In this week of our “Capstone: Data Retrieval, Processing and Visualization with Python” course, we will download and run a simple version of the algorithm used for Google PageRank and practice distributing some content. The assignment is peer graded, and would be the first of three optional honors grade assignments in the course. This is a continuation of the material covered in Course 4 of the specialization, and is based on Chapter 16 of the Python for Everyone textbook.
EXPLORING DATA SOURCES (PROJECT). The optional Capstone project is your opportunity to select, process, and visualize the data of your choice, and get feedback from your fellow students. The project is not gradable and may be as simple or complex as you want to propose. The assignment for this week of the course will be to identify a data source and make a short discussion forum post describing the data source and outlining some possible analyzes that could be done. It is not necessary to use the data source presented here for your actual analysis.
SCRATCHING AND MODELING EMAIL DATA. In our second optional honors degree assignment, we will retrieve and process email data from the Sakai open source project. Video conferencing will help you through the process of data retrieval, cleansing, and modeling.
ACCESS TO NEW DATA SOURCES (PROJECT). Your task in this course module will be to make a discussion thread post, reflecting the progress you have made to date in recovering and cleaning your data source to enable you to perform your analysis. It is recommended here to ask for some feedback from other students who provide suggestions to refine the process.
VIEW EMAIL DATA. In the optional final honors assignment, we will do two visualizations of the email data you have retrieved and processed: a word cloud to visualize the distribution of frequencies, and a timeline to show how they change. the data over time.
DISPLAY NEW DATA SOURCES (PROJECT). In this last module of the course you will present the analysis of your data to the class. While many of the projects will result in a certain visualization of the data, every other result of data analysis is of equal value, so use the form of analysis and visualization that is most appropriate for your dataset. particular project.
