In a clever phrase, Peter Drucker, a pioneer in the field of business management, once stated that people have a perverse tendency to behave like human beings.
With this I wanted to point out something that is evident: that people are not machines and, therefore, we are not programmable.
However, we do have some needs to satisfy, and some common characteristics.
And knowing them - what motivates people in the workplace, what needs they seek to satisfy, and why - helps to better understand behavior in organizations.
For example, it helps us to answer the following questions: how is it possible that a person still earns a lot of money and is not motivated to work? Or the opposite, how is it possible that despite earning very little money a person is willing to work hard? What behaviors and qualities should a good leader display? Is it feasible to develop these capacities? Why are some teams high performers while others are not? And at the same time, how to measure the performance of a team? What is the culture of the organization and how important is it? During these four weeks of course on people and team management, we will address different approaches and theoretical frameworks that will allow us to answer all these questions.
At the end of the second session we will interview Esther Jiménez, director and researcher in the area of leadership skills.
At the end of the third session we will interview Federic Sabriá, Professor of Operations and Olympic Water Polo player, who will talk to us about teamwork.
And at the end of the fourth to Miquel Lladó, Professor and former CEO and Director of large corporations (such as Bimbo or Sara Lee).
With all this, the student will have the opportunity to assimilate the main concepts related to the management of people in organizations, as well as to understand from a practical point of view what the complex task of managing people entails: encouraging them to be motivated; leading individuals and teams; facilitating effective teamwork; and fostering a culture of respect and performance.
