In our success-focused culture, we don't often talk about disappointment. This course not only recognizes that, but also shows how to cleverly manage and grow from setbacks.
Product designs typically end up as complex CAD drawings before going into production.
But they often start out as sketches.
Sketching allows product designers to generate ideas quickly, without devoting resources to a single idea.
That's why this course teaches drawing instead of sketching, focusing on speed, creativity, and iteration rather than a precise description of a single concept.
Kevin Henry, product designer and educator behind the influential book Drawing for Product Designers, teaches beginning and intermediate students how to visualize ideas for small-scale and mass production with just a pencil and paper.
Combines explanation, illustration, animation, and hands-on demonstrations of concepts such as drawing basic shapes and more complex shapes, creating plans, the mechanics and methods of two-point perspective, the principles of projection, and creating the illusion of shadows and casting shadows .
The goal is to get students to generate ideas and sketch them as accurately as possible without inhibiting the creative process.
At the end of the course, Kevin explains not only how designers draw products, but also why.
When you're done, check out the rest of our product design courses, which expand on advanced sketching and visualization methods, including prototyping and computer-aided design (CAD).
