The Uniandes MasterTrack™ Certificate Program on Coursera, “Principles of Automated and Agile Software Engineering” is designed for software development professionals interested in learning agile development methodologies that allow them to integrate high-performance teams. Registration closes on September 4. It is an open program for all of Latin America, with limited quotas, through the Coursera online education platform.

The Universidad de los Andes, one of the best universities in the world and the 4th in Latin America (QS 2020), launches this program on the Coursera platform, where it is one of the few Spanish-speaking educational institutions with courses and studies in all levels, offered by the renowned online education platform.

Theme and characteristics of the Program

In this program lasting approximately 4 months, students will learn about software design and architecture and use the essential practices of versioning, continuous integration, and automated testing to design and deploy an application. The program is intended for students who already have programming knowledge in one of these languages: Java, Python, or C++, and are looking to learn the foundation for essential software engineering practices, all with a study program that equally offers theory and practice.

An important aspect of the MasterTrack™ program modality, an exclusive format of Coursera, is that it offers training of a very high academic level guaranteed, due to the fact that they are studies developed by the most prestigious universities in the world, as is the case of Los Andes, but in addition, Coursera has developed a novel format by allowing the program to be a potential gateway to a more advanced study such as a master's degree, in addition to allowing academic credits to be homologated as part of said postgraduate study. However, the program itself is a very complete specific study, which in the case of the MasterTrack™ Certificate Program "Principles of automated and agile software engineering" is made up of 4 courses with an average dedication of 1 month each. .

A gateway to a master's degree

In the case of this program, the Universidad de los Andes offers the possibility that, if it is in the interest of the student, it may be partly comparable with another study that the institution also offers in a revolutionary way on the Coursera platform, such as the “Master in Software Engineering”, transferring your progress automatically, when you start with that master's program. All of this is subject to the evaluation and approval of the university, and in turn the student may decide that they are only interested in developing the MasterTrack™ Certificate Program without advancing to the master's degree.

These academic offer formats allow the student to enter deeply into a study, to know the academic, teaching and content quality, to later evaluate if he wants to deepen and take his preparation to the highest level.

Topics of the courses that make up the program

  • COURSE 1: Software Engineering Practices Essential for Agile

Uses essential software engineering practices to be an effective and efficient member of an agile development team (documentation of requirements in user stories, workflows over a release manager, test-driven development, and integration practice) keep going).

  • COURSE 2: Software Architecture and Design Principles

In a globalized world, where the users of the applications we build are found anywhere in the world and in numbers that we could not even think of before, it is essential to design software that responds quickly and reliably to thousands of users at the same time. .

  • COURSE 3: Automated Testing

This course is a first step in designing strategies that seek to balance manual and automated efforts to perform software testing. Learn about automated testing concepts and techniques, testing strategies, exploratory testing, reconnaissance testing, and end-to-end testing.

  • COURSE 4: Software Engineering for Web Applications

Implement, from a list of requirements, a web application. For this, the student will be able to:

  • Create the visual design of a responsive web application, SPA, TWA, accessible, internationalizable, easy to use and validated by the end user
  • Design the architecture of the web application and implement it using a development framework
  • Follow an agile iterative process, including automated test development (unit and end-to-end) and continuous integration practices.
