Health care professionals (HCPs) engage in work-based learning at all stages of their career, whether during internships, on the job, or while performing CPD. Although teaching is secondary to the provision of health care, it remains an essential activity for sharing vital knowledge and skills among health professionals. However, many health professionals who teach students, trainees, or colleagues have received little formal teacher training.
According to the General Medical Council, all physicians have a professional obligation to contribute to the education and training of other health professionals. In this microcredential, you will enhance your skills in teaching student-centered health care and increase your confidence in teaching for a health care setting. You will be introduced to practical planning tools to help you prepare an effective teaching session and learn evidence- and theory-based strategies to support your students' professional development.

Are you eligible for this microcredential? To join this microcredential, you must have a primary healthcare qualification or be currently working in a healthcare setting. Ideally you should also have an IELTS equivalent of 6.5. A student on this microcredential may currently work as a dentist, physician, nurse, paramedic, pharmacist, physical therapist, speech-language therapist, or in a similar medical practice role.
Is this microcredential right for you? This microcredential is designed for healthcare professionals whose role is to teach students, trainees or their colleagues working in the NHS or with another healthcare provider. It will help you improve and develop your student-centered teaching skills to ensure that your healthcare professional colleagues get the true value of your healthcare experience. The credential can be used as evidence of CPD related to teaching or to decide if a higher degree in the subject is right for you.
