The e-Learning platform Coursera receives the B Corp Certification, for meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, responsibility and transparency, said Maggioncalda. In pursuit of this new recognition, the company in turn became a Public Benefit Corporation.

COURSERA OBTAINS CORPORATE B CERTIFICATION

This certification is one of the most important assessments currently pursued by the most recognized companies worldwide.

According to B Lab, the organization that delivers this recognition, “Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.”

Coursera founders Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng's goal was to develop an educational platform that could provide universal access to world-class learning. Coursera, in accordance with its CEO, prior to obtaining recognition as a Certified B company, always tried to comply with the highest standards, required by certifications such as the one delivered by B Lab, however, the challenges and responsibilities derived from the pandemic have made that the platform becomes aware of the fundamental role that its proposal played, and will play by strengthening institutions and communities.

COURSERA AND ITS COMMITMENT TO ACCESS TO EDUCATION IN THE PANDEMIC

Let us remember that Coursera, from the beginning of the pandemic, launched itself fully into an aggressive, necessary and forceful strategy, in which it set out to be the ideal tool for millions of people to continue their academic training, despite the restrictions on mobility and blockades on account of the quarantine, imposed to safeguard life, by different governments of the world.

Coursera launched an ambitious program in which it offered governments of the world, almost all of its catalog of virtual courses, so that they provide access to high-quality training for its citizens.

Society needs businesses to be a catalyst for positive social change, ensuring that their growth and innovations have a broader and more equitable impact on our communities.

“The demand that Coursera has experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic requires us to play an even greater role in empowering communities and institutions. This is one of the reasons we now commit to a higher standard of purpose and impact through third-party validation, public transparency, and legal accountability,” Maggioncalda wrote in the coursera statement.

JUST AS COURSERA OBTAINS THE B CORP™ CERTIFICATION, WHAT OTHER COMPANIES HAVE DONE IT?

Currently more than 3.700 companies in 74 countries and 150 different industries, they have obtained the Certified B Corporation, which is an indication that the concern for responsible practices in environmental and social matters is not something that only companies with that "business core" are concerned with. are worrying about incorporating into their processes. In the words of B Lab, “B Corps build a community of leaders and fuel a global movement of people who use business as a force for good. The values and aspirations of the B Corp community are embodied in the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence.”

In Latin America there are already more than 600 companies with said certification, demonstrating an interest in incorporating social and environmental well-being into their legitimate interests of economic benefits.
